Catan, and Other Games I Enjoy

Quite a long time ago, I wrote an article about my favorite game, which at the time was Scattergories. Although I am not sure what my very favorite game is, I would like to talk about some games that I enjoy, and how different they all are.

First I’m going to talk about Catan. I very recently bought this game, and have played it twice now. It has quickly made its way to the top, as it is already one of my favorite games. With similar aspects to other games like Monopoly, Life, and even somewhat Minecraft, it’s been an instant hit in my family. This game is much more of a serious game, whereas almost every other game on my list is much more funny.

One of these funny games is The Great Dalmuti, which certainly has elements of strong gameplay, along with a generally silly and fun atmosphere. It is a fairly simple card game, but it adds in the hilarious addition of wearing silly costumes. This game truly combines good gameplay with goofiness in a wonderful and satisfying way.

Chameleon always promises plenty of laughs, and is one of the most original games I’ve played. When in a group of people who will understand different parts of certain characters, shows, and other things that often appear on the cards, things can become really funny really fast. Although this game is harder to describe/explain, it is one of my very favorites.

Balderdash and Wise or Otherwise are quite similar games. Both revolve around the basic idea that one person knows the correct answer, and others submit their answers to the one person that knows the true answer. The one person reads all the answers off without the others knowing whose is whose, and then votes are cast from everyone. The main difference between the two is that Balderdash has weird movies, wacky words, strange laws, odd acronyms, and random people, Wise or Otherwise only has you writing the second half of a certain old saying.

Pictionary is a classic. With chaotic, fast paced fun it truly is an exceptional game. Really, I don’t know much else to say about this one.

At last, we come to my very favorite game. This game goes by many names. Some call it Telestrations. I call it The Notepad Game. In this game there is endless creativity, laughter, and sudden plot twists. It’s such a simple game, you don’t even need to buy it. You just need a few notebooks and a few writing utensils, and you have yourself an incredible game. Bravo for The Notepad Game, my very favorite game.

Thank you for reading! Merry Christmas!

I absolutely LOVE books! I get most of my books from the library, and we find good deals on books to buy. But, I would really like to grow my personal library even more. If you would like to give money (even 10¢ helps!) for a book-buying fund or donate a book that you think would be good for a kid my age, then you can click the link above!
